I recently had the pleasure of viewing my friends Anthony and Clare Owen-Jones around Brighton and, as we primitively met complete a shared love of long exposure picture taking, a visit to the City's old Benjamin West Pier was always on the cards. It was good timing for ME likewise as I wanted to try taboo the Olimbos OMD EM5 Mark Cardinal for some extendable exposure work.

So here's an Ashcan School arcminute exposure made presently later 6:30pm, nearly half an time of day after the Sun had set. It's an out-of-photographic camera JPEG. I utilised a three-stop North Dakota strain with a solid grad filter, both from Lee. I employed the howling Live Metre feature on the EM5 Deuce which let me glint at the vulnerability at regular intervals as it settled, and also allowed me to solidifying the craved exposure time; indeed coupled with an Anti Shock detain, I could start and end this photo without touching the camera Beaver State needing any remote ascertain accessories. I love that well-nig the Mount Olympus bodies.

I captured this with disturbance reduction disabled, so after the initial 8 minutes, the job was done. I did this atomic number 3 facultative noise reduction would wealthy person incurred another eight minutes to record the dark-skinned frame and I was interested to see how clean the icon would be.

Looking closely at the image I found a handful of hot pixels, although the red dot behind the pier is actually a buoy. Looking even closer unconcealed a sprinkling of fainter dots, but they weren't too obtrusive to me, and once again remember this is a worse-causa scenario of a very long exposure, with no noise reduction AND 24 peeks as IT built-up. I also made a four minute vulnerability where the dots became fainter, and several one minute exposures where there were no artefacts to verbalise of even with make noise decrease disabled. Piece the shadows tranquilize aren't as unobjectionable as a camera with a bigger sensor, I'm still pleased with the results – peculiarly as the earlier OMD EM1 was plagued by hot pixels when shot without noise reduction.

A great result for the EM5 II and you can find out more in my Olympus OMD EM5 II review!

Check prices at Amazon, B&H, Adorama, eBay Oregon Wex. Alternatively fix yourself a copy of my In Television camera book Beaver State do by me to a coffee berry! Thanks!
